5 ways for families to enjoy fun and togetherness at Sweetwater

Family time is not only fun. It also teaches children how to interact with others and build confidence, and it creates memories that will last a lifetime. At Sweetwater, families can enjoy many fun and healthy family activities in and around the community. Here are the Top 5.

Hiking the trails. With five scenic trails, Sweetwater’s trail system lets you hike through beautiful Hill Country scenery right at home. With trailheads throughout the community, it’s easy to set out on Canyon Trail, Maidenhair Trail and others to explore waterfalls, hilltop ridges, steep canyons and other natural features. Trail markers and amenities such as benches and pet waste stations make the hike even more enjoyable. When completed, Sweetwater’s trail system will ultimately extend for 10 miles, as part of 700 acres devoted to parks, trails and natural open spaces.

Get active at the Sweetwater Club. The 10-acre Sweetwater Club offers fun activities for every member of the family, including swimming in a resort-style pool with a gently sloping beach entry, lap lanes, a quiet area beneath a waterfall, tanning ledges and a splash pad. The clubhouse and patio host events and gatherings throughout the year. The Sweetwater Club also has athletic fields, a sports court, a sand volleyball court, an event lawn and an indoor fitness center. Opening in 2019, the Overlook Club will offer a new place for residents to swim and socialize amid breathtaking Hill Country views.

Engage with nature. Spending time in nature has been proven to reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve mood. For kids, engaging with nature also improves concentration and motor skills. Sweetwater offers many opportunities to get close to nature, starting with our trails, where you can see an 800-year-old Texas Madrone tree. Special events such as stargazing parties and organized trail hikes help kids get excited about the natural world, and our partnerships with Round Rock Honey and Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin offer more opportunities to explore nature.

Join a fun event. Sweetwater offers year ‘round events for residents of all ages, including family friendly holiday celebrations and ongoing activities like Storytime and Movies on the Lawn. See photos of past events at our gallery. Events are a great way to meet the neighbors, especially for new residents.

Explore the Hill Country. Sweetwater’s location has been aptly described as where Austin meets the Hill Country. For free time, that means the Hill Country’s natural treasures and fun festivals are within an easy hour’s drive, or maybe a little longer if you stop for some famous Texas BBQ. Sweetwater residents can enjoy swimming holes, lakes, natural springs, caverns, rock climbing and many more attractions for a day, or for a fun mini getaway any time of the year. Explore the opportunities with our Hill Country guide.
