Jacobs Well offers cool 68-degree swimming in a beautiful Hill Country setting

Located just north of Wimberley, the Jacob’s Well Natural Area is one of the most magnificent natural gems of the Texas Hill Country. The first natural preserve owned by Hays County, this beloved swimming spot forms the headwaters of Cypress Creek.

Jacob’s Well is actually an artesian spring, with crystal-clear water naturally pushed forth from the Trinity Aquifer, which lies roughly 140 feet below the surface. Surrounded by rugged layered limestone cliffs and a heavily wooded bank, Jacob’s Well offers enchanting beauty along with a cool average summer temperature of 68 degrees.

Jacob’s Well is the largest continually flowing karstic spring in the Texas Hill Country and it has one of the longest underwater cave systems in the state. Karstic springs are usually the end of a cave system, where a river cave reaches the earth’s surface.
