Explore Our Trails: Sunset Trail

In this blog series, we’ll take a look at each of the 5 trails that make up Sweetwater’s trail system, which extends for approximately 10 miles.

Sunset Trail is the shortest trail in Sweetwater, meandering for less than half a mile. But it’s also one of the most scenic trails, providing a crucial link in Sweetwater’s overall connecting trail network.

Sunset Trail begins near Sweetwater’s main entrance on Highway 71, encircling the Sweetwater Club, the community’s flagship amenity.

With two trailheads for Sunset Trail located at the Sweetwater Club, this connectivity makes it easy for residents to walk, run or bike to this 10-acre amenity, where they can enjoy swimming, fitness, field sports and the many festive events that take place there.

Sunset Trail packs many scenic features into its .41-mile length, including two creek crossings and two waterfalls. It also passes by Sweetwater’s beautiful 800-year-old Texas Madrone Tree.

The trail has two seating areas, but the most inviting place to sit is at the Sunset Pavilion, which offers a great vantage point for enjoying the panoramic Hill Country views surrounding Sweetwater. The pavilion’s orientation makes for spectacular sunset viewing, but the views are inspiring any time of the day.

Sunset Trail connects to Canyon Trail, one of Sweetwater’s longest trails, which links to Limestone Falls Trail and Maidenhair Trail.
