Made in Sweetwater: Adirondack chairs are a labor of love for the Bauer family

A common interest in woodworking helped Sweetwater residents Cassie and Colin Bauer bond after they first met. Now, they plan to use the proceeds from selling their handmade Adirondack chairs to help pay for adoption expenses for their first child.

The couple has been making Adirondacks for family and friends for several years, and the chairs made their first public debut at the annual Sweetwater Holiday Market in 2020. They are now available by special order year-round.

With a base price of $275, or $500 for a pair, the Bauers’ Adirondack chairs are handcrafted from all-natural redwood that can be enjoyed in covered and uncovered outdoor areas. They are available with options such as built-in holders for pint glasses and wine glasses, and also with a built-in wine bottle chiller. Custom finishes such as stains and colors are also offered.

For information and orders, email them at, or call 702-956-2213.

Since they moved to Sweetwater, Cassie and Colin have loved sitting out in their own Adirondack chairs with their new neighbors in the Mesa Ridge neighborhood.

“We feel super lucky, because we’ve become great friends with several neighbors, and we’ve been a pretty close friend group during the pandemic,” said Cassie.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Cassie and Colin first moved to Austin about five years ago. They loved it, but then they relocated to California for Colin’s job, as a sales representative for alcoholic beverages.

When they got a chance to move back to Austin, they jumped at the opportunity. A friend, real estate agent Brandon Easley with Realty Austin, told him he knew the perfect community they should look at.

“Brandon knew that we wanted to start a family, and that strong schools were very important to us,” Cassie said. “As a friend, he also knew we love to hike and enjoy the outdoors. With all its parks and trails, Sweetwater is perfect for us and our dog, Stella May.”

Having recently received her teaching certificate, Cassie also looks forward to teaching in the highly regarded Lake Travis Independent School District serving Sweetwater.
