Austin ranks as happiest major city in Texas_1
Austin continues to be one of the happiest cities in Texas and the United States.
The latest proof comes from WalletHub, which ranks Austin as the No. 1 happiest big city in Texas, and No. 21 in the nation.
Digging a little deeper into the data, Austin ranks No. 10 nationally in the study’s measure of “emotional and physical well-being,” and No. 11 for employment.
WalletHub came up with its rankings by examining 28 key indicators of happiness in 180 of the largest U.S. cities. Based on the science of happiness and the latest positive-psychology research, these indicators include the depression rate, income-growth rate, and the average leisure time spent per day.
“Location plays a hand in how bright or gloomy our days are,” WalletHub stated in its introduction to the study. “As this study aims to illustrate, moving to a certain city may help you be more content.”
Austin has also been recognized as one of the happiest cities in the U.S. by National Geographic.
Researchers recognize community, environment, acres of parkland per resident, and average leisure time per day as key ingredients of happiness.
