10 features we love in M/I Homes’ new Ellingwood model
One of Sweetwater’s newest homebuilders, M/I Homes recently opened its two-story Ellingwood model home in our community. We just toured this beautiful four-bedroom home, and we’re happy to report that it’s filled with features you’ll love. Here are our top 10 favorites.
Hill Country exterior. With its masterful blend of stone, Farmhouse-style siding and natural wood accents, the Ellingwood harmonizes naturally with Sweetwater’s scenic Hill Country environment. M/I Homes has paid careful attention to every detail, down to the copper gooseneck lamp next to the warm wood garage doors. Out back, the Ellingwood’s covered patio offers a relaxing setting for outdoor living.
A mudroom that says “Hello.” We really mean it – a fun “Hello” sign welcomes you to this convenient everyday entry located between the garage and kitchen. Built-in cabinetry and handy hanging hooks add function to this mudroom, which also has access to the walk-in pantry.
Laundry room to love. Believe it or not, the laundry room is the number one feature on the National Association of Home Builder’s latest “What Home Buyers Really Want” survey. The Ellingwood has a laundry room you can love, with plenty of cabinetry above and beside the washer and dryer. A window adds natural light to this room, conveniently located off the kitchen.
High ceilings. The Ellingwood has 10-foot-high ceilings throughout the first floor, with soaring two-story ceilings in the foyer and family room. Combined with the natural light flooding in from all the windows, these lofty ceilings create a bright and cheery atmosphere throughout these open living areas. This is especially true in the family/kitchen area, where double-stacked windows offer views of the patio and backyard.
Island kitchen. With its generous overhang, the kitchen island easily accommodates bar seating, while also providing plenty of workspace. The Ellingwood model displays the optional gourmet kitchen layout for this plan, offering abundant upper and lower cabinet and countertop space. This kitchen opens to the mudroom and walk-in pantry area, making it functional as well as beautiful.
Home office. Austin is already one of America’s top cities for working remotely, and many people who started working from home in 2020 are continuing to do so. Home offices have never been more in demand, and the Ellingwood provides a quiet and spacious study near the front door. French doors and windows add plenty of productivity-boosting natural light to this workspace.
Primary luxury. The Ellingwood model displays the optional bay window in the downstairs primary suite. We love how this window creates a sitting area spacious enough for two cozy chairs, enhancing the already generous dimensions of this light-filled retreat. The primary bath is just as appealing, with its optional deluxe shower, double vanities on separate walls, and a roomy walk-in closet.
Motivating bedroom. In most model homes we see, the love how the designers seem to let loose with their creativity in the secondary bedrooms. The Ellingwood model is a great example, with an adventurous upstairs bedroom that has a large trail photo and artwork that motivates us to “Hike” and “Play.”
Bedroom with buzz. Another upstairs bedroom honors Sweetwater’s location near the city of Bee Cave with buzzy style. A “honeycomb” mural behind the headboard offers a fun backdrop for an arrangement of larger-than-life bee sculptures. More bee art and a Bee Cave history sign add to the theme of this sweet bedroom.
Gameroom for fun and study. Located at the top of the stairway, the upstairs gameroom offers an open recreation and study area adjacent to the upstairs bedrooms. The Ellingwood model shows just how versatile this gameroom can be, with cozy seating for four, a wall-length entertainment center and a spacious desk.
