Things to Do With Your Dog Austin Hill Country

15 January . 2020

Our Canine Bucket List has 7 ideas for fun with your pooch

Bucket lists are popular because they help us focus on the things we want to enjoy most in life, so why shouldn’t our furry family members have their own bucket list? After all, for many of us, they’re our best friends and constant companions.

With that in mind, we came up with this Canine Bucket List of 7 things to enjoy with your dog in Sweetwater, Lakeway, Spicewood and the surrounding Hill Country.

Waterfront fun. The Lakeway Bark Park is part of the larger Lakeway City Park, a riverside recreation area that also includes two miles of trails, a beach area, two playgrounds, a baseball field and a butterfly garden. Surrounded by shady trees, the bark park has fenced play areas and a refreshing water feature to help dogs keep cool in the summer heat.

Bee fun. The most tail-wagging area of Bee Cave Central Park, Bee Cave Dog Park has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs to roam and play off-leash. This tree-shaded park also water fountains and plenty of seating areas under canopies. If you and your dog have the urge to roam further, you can explore the rest of this 50-acre park, on leash.

Pace yourself. Limestone cliffs and natural beaches add scenic beauty to Spicewood’s Pace Bend Park, on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Travis. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout this popular 1,368-acre Hill Country park, which offers miles of multi-use trails and designated swim coves. If your dog likes to camp, Pace Bend offers primitive and improved campsites.

Day tripping with Fido. From running around in the six-acre Fredericksburg Dog Park, to climbing Enchanted Rock, this Texas Wildflower article lists a number of adventures you can enjoy with your best friend, about an hour away from Sweetwater. Another Fredericksburg highlight is Dogologie, a canine shopping wonderland where you can pick up a list of dog-friendly local restaurants and wineries.

Dog-friendly dining. Realizing that people love to take their dogs with them when they go out to eat, a growing number of restaurants now offer dog-friendly patios. This article lists dog-friendly dining spots near Sweetwater.

Fresh-baked treats. It’s not OK to give your dog a bite of that chocolate chip cookie, but Woof Gang Bakery in Bee Cave offers fresh-baked treats that are safe and nutritious for your dog to eat. They also offer a full range of pet foods and supplies, along with grooming, self-service grooming, and day care.

Trails for wagging tails. At Sweetwater, dogs and people alike enjoy miles of trails that meander atop scenic ridges and traverse through rugged canyons, with beautiful Hill Country views all around.

In Madrone Ridge, one of our newest neighborhoods, you and your dog can climb Hilltop Park to enjoy the views and the fresh air, and you can sit on the deck at the Overlook Club and look out over Bee Creek.

Don’t have a dog? If you would love to have a canine best friend in your life, we can recommend two worthy animal rescue groups that Sweetwater has partnered with in some of our events. Austin Pets Alive! works with local shelters to rescue dogs most at risk of euthanasia. Highland Lakes Canine Rescue works to rescue, rehabilitate and secure forever loving homes for abandoned dogs in the Texas Hill Country.
