Newland, developer of Sweetwater, celebrates 5 decades in 2018

Sweetwater's developer, Newland, is celebrating 5 decades of leadership in 2018.

Founded in 1968, Newland is the largest private developer of residential and urban mixed-use communities in the United States. Newland has more than 140 real estate developments throughout the U.S., both completed and under way.

Based in San Diego, Newland currently has more than 40 real estate developments in progress in 14 states from coast to coast across the U.S.

Combined, Newland's developments are home to 175,000 households who enjoy exceptional recreational amenities, such as community centers, parks, trails and lakes. And with more than 20 million square feet of commercial and retail space, they are places where people can also work, shop and go to school.

What’s the Newland approach? “Great communities are more than just a few streets or a single neighborhood. They are envisioned and planned from the ground up to create the best possible experience for the people who will one day call them home,” the Newland website states.

This difference is easy to see at Sweetwater, where about half of the community’s 1,400-acre master plan is set aside for parks, trails, amenities and natural open spaces, and homes are carefully nestled amid protected Hill Country canyons and ridges.

Austin is one of the most active regions in the country for Newland. In addition to Sweetwater, Newland is also the developer of Rancho Sienna, Falcon Pointe and Teravista in the Austin area. These latter two communities are each in their 15th year of development in 2018 – another sign of Newland’s long-term commitment.
