With extra space, today’s garages are not just for cars

There are two truths about Texans of all generations: we love our cars and our “stuff.” And because we have so much stuff, only about 30 percent of homeowners are able to park their cars in the garage, according to This Old House.

That’s one reason why 81% of homebuyers of all ages said they more garage space in their next new home, the National Association of Home Builders found in its latest Housing Preferences report. For 25% of buyers, more garage space is a top priority.

Fortunately, many Sweetwater builders offer three- and 2.5-car garages as standard or optional features. Some plans even offer four-car garages. Many homes have architectural designs that place garage doors to the side, or include porte cocheres and other features, to maintain attractive Hill Country streetscapes in the community.

With extra space, garages can accommodate everything from workshops to extra storage space. Any with many of today’s new home plans offering “everyday entries” that seamlessly connect the garage to the home, often with a mudroom in between, going back and forth between the house and garage is a cinch – especially when the inspiration strikes to finish that project.

Sweetwater’s Homefinder lets you search for new homes using many criteria, including garage size of up to four cars.
