6 reasons Sweetwater families love Lake Travis ISD

Whether it’s the boys’ football team or the girls’ volleyball team, the Lake Travis High School Cavaliers are a big part of the Texas Hill Country – as beloved as bluebonnets and boots.

Actually, the Cavs might even be more popular than the state flower, at least here in the tight-knit, high-achieving Lake Travis Independent School District.

The Lake Travis High School Cavaliers won the Texas football championship in division 4A an unprecedented five years in a row from 2007 to 2011. That record-breaking streak was chronicled in a one-hour documentary, The Quest for Greatness: The Lake Travis Story.   The legacy continued in 2015, as the Cavaliers went again to the state playoffs.

Cheering on the Lake Travis Cavs is a way of life here. Dig a little deeper, and it’s easy to see that team spirit is just one thing to love about Lake Travis ISD.

Here are six more reasons families are so happy about Sweetwater’s schools.

A+ district grade. LTISD has an overall A+ grade from Niche.com, a national educational review website. This grade includes A+ ratings in academics and educational outcomes, and A ratings for extracurricular activities, sports/fitness and teachers. According to state standards, 95% of LTISD students are proficient in math and/or reading. The district’s 94% graduation rate is well above the national average of 82%.

A+ campus grades. Children at Risk awarded A+ grades to all three LTISD schools attended by Sweetwater students in its 2016 school rankings. These rankings are based on student achievement, campus performance, college readiness, and improvement on scores in reading, English and math. Lake Travis High School ranks among the top 5% of all Texas high schools, and Lake Travis Middle School and West Cypress Hills Elementary are among the top 10%.

Modern campuses. All three of the LTISD schools serving Sweetwater are state-of-the art. West Cypress Hills Elementary and Lake Travis Middle School both opened in 2014 in brand-new buildings. A major remodeling and expansion project at Lake Travis High was completed in 2016.

Engaged teachers. There are many strong indicators that LTISD has a highly engaged and satisfied workforce. In its 2016 Employee Opinion Survey, 98% percent of LTISD employees responded that they liked the work they do, and 95% said they felt good about they work they do. Also, 97% said they were proud to work for LTISD, and 92% would recommend the district as a good place to work.
